Salt Facility, Netherlands

Frisia Zout B.V are a company that produces high-quality salt, primarily for the food and chemical industries. The environment is challenging due to factors like humidity, airborne particles, gases, dust, and potential temperature fluctuations, making it at risk for flammability and a challenge for tools and equipment, such as lighting.

They needed a robust lighting solution that could withstand the demand of their surroundings. Raytec provided SPARTAN 4ft WL168 Intelligent Emergency Linears to Frisia Zout B.V. in Harlingen, Netherlands. We collaborated with our partner, Unique Lights, to supply our SPARTAN hazardous area range, specifically designed for harsh settings like this. The SPARTAN WL168 Linears, made from marine-grade aluminum, are engineered for exceptional durability and are rated IP66 and IP67, perfect for combating the challenges above.

Why we love this installation:

Given the risks of the environment, we are confident in the performance of our products, which are specifically designed to thrive. The increased power output of the SPARTAN Linear means fewer luminaries were needed across the installation compared to traditional linear fittings, also reducing costs. Additionally, the SPARTAN Linear’s unique modular design makes maintenance quick and easy, reducing downtime.

ANPR Barrier Control, Belgium

A security camera and video surveillance expert, Akkadia, designed a Data Logistic Recording System to control the access to a Chemical Plant. Collecting data on exit and entry such as number plates, driver names and vehicle details accurately, was critical for a successful implementation.

One of the challenges encountered was the camera’s difficulty in accurately identifying the red characters on number plates, while using Infra-Red illumination. Red number plates are particularly common in Belgium, Middle East and some US States. They needed reliable and intelligent lighting to compliment their advanced system. The solution was to design this system using Raytec White-Light illuminators, specifically the PULSESTAR W32 units. This ensured the characters on the plates were visible for the camera to read and synced with the camera shutter for precise illumination. This was installed at each of the three access gates and meant accurate plate readings and reliable data.

Why we love this installation:

We take pride in helping our customers solve complex problems. With Raytec lights being controlled by the camera shutter this means that only when the vehicle is within the defined range will the lights switch on. Saving energy, extending the lifetime of the illuminator, and reducing over-exposure of the number plate due to headlights blinding the camera. Raytec provided a complete solution, including Hazardous Area Lighting throughout the entire chemical plant. It’s satisfying to know that our products are trusted for implementation across a wide range of applications.

With our new system, the main focus was ensuring seamless data collection at the entry gates to the Chemical Plant. Raytec's reliable, intelligent, White-Light, pulsed LED lighting provided the perfect solution, playing a crucial role in ensuring the characters of the number plates were visible in full colour for the camera both in day and night situations to read. Henk Bogers; Akkadia

Oil Depot, Botswana

Oil depots face unique challenges due to their hazardous environments, where safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance are critical.

In collaboration with our partner Light Kinetics, we supplied our SPARTAN hazardous area range to the Francistown Oil Depot in Botswana. This range includes WL168, WL84 Spigot and Mid Power Flood, all designed for the harshest conditions and certified for Zone 1, Zone 2, and CID2 applications.

Tyre Scanning, Norway

Lighting is crucial for aiding road safety, whether by helping drivers and pedestrians spot hazards to reduce accidents, supporting the monitoring of vehicle speed, or in this case, facilitating vehicle condition checks. Tyre health is an often overlooked measure that needs to be compliant with legal standards.

Counting Hero AS and Norwegian Public Roads Administration wanted a solution to monitor and control the type and condition of tyres, one of the leading risk factors for road accidents. The conventional approach typically includes halting random vehicles manually, resulting in a limited sample size and taking up valuable time. Together they developed efficient tyre scanning technology that would provide a detailed analysis of the classification and damage detection in real time. With its on-the-go scanning capabilities, the technology requires optimal lighting to support the fast shutter speeds necessary to capture quality images at high-speeds.

Our provided solution was PULSESTAR VTS20. The illumination with a pulse controller allows the timing, height, and width to be tailored for the exact needs of the application. A trigger input allows the illumination to be pulsed in synchronization with the camera shutter to deliver maximum light levels precisely when needed, enabling it to get reliable and accurate results.

Confind Workover Rig, Romania

Our SPARTAN Bulkhead products were recently installed at the Confind Workover Rig in Romania, in collaboration with our distributor, Industrial Electrical Solutions. Tasked with the challenge of lighting a tough mobile environment, it was vital that the lighting worked with minimal voltage and power consumption due to the rig being mobile.

The solution was our SPARTAN BL24 Zone 1 Floodlight. Made with marine grade aluminium, stainless-steel bracketry and fastenings, and being IP66 and IP67 rated, these luminaires are best suited for this application. They offer a variety of beam options, which we customized to meet specific needs. Along with this we included vibration-resistant mounting solutions to ensure safety compliance.

The challenging environment meant our products to be flexible enough to meet various needs. We are confident that our Bulkhead products were the ideal solution for this application’s requirements. The customisation was tailored specifically for this project, and our ability to offer such flexibility makes our products well-suited for a wide range of applications.
