2023: A Year in Review
2023 has been an inspiring and adventurous year at Raytec. Launching brand-new products into international markets, hosting two fantastic conferences for our partners, and achieving carbon neutrality are just a few of our 2023 achievements.
We would like to say a huge thank you to all our partners and customers for their continued support. In addition, we would also like to say thank you to our dedicated team for their hard work and efforts during 2023. Let’s explore some of our 2023 highlights.
2023 PRODUCT LAUNCHES
SPARTAN Linear High Output
In January 2023, we launched our SPARTAN Linear High Output (HO) variants – a great extension to the SPARTAN Linear family. SPARTAN Linear HO offers twice the lumen output than our standard SPARTAN Linear whilst retaining the same luminaire look and feel. You can find more information in our below article.
SPARTAN Street
We launched SPARTAN Street in September – the first streetlight of its kind to be certified for use in Zone 1/21 environments. SPARTAN Street provides a new range of high-performance general area luminaires, designed specifically for access roads, pathways, and building perimeters within hazardous area environments. VARIO2 IP POE 16
This year, Raytec launched VARIO2 IP PoE 16, the most powerful network illuminator on the market – delivering outstanding distances of up to 500m (1,640ft). VARIO2 IP PoE 16 is available as Infra-Red, White-Light, and Hybrid variants. Find out more below.
KEY PARTNER EVENTS 2023
International Platinum Supplier Conference
In September 2023, we held a conference for all our suppliers at The Village Hotel in Newcastle upon Tyne – showcasing our product development plans for the future. It was a pleasure to speak to our suppliers across a two-day itinerary.
International Platinum Partner Conference
Following the previous International Platinum Supplier Conference, in October 2023, we were delighted to host our fourth Hazardous Area International Platinum Partner Conference. We invited our distributors from across the globe to a three-day conference.
With an incredible venue, Neville Hall, The Common Room, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, home to the former Mining Institute, we were delighted talk about our product roadmap, demonstrate our new products and even present the Raytec International Platinum Partner Awards 2023, rightfully earned by ETHOS Enerji, AP Haslam Ltd, Pacific Automation and Dron & Dickson. It was a great event, that was enjoyed by all.
CARBON NEUTRALITY
We are pleased to have embraced sustainability company-wide and have achieved Carbon Neutrality. Through purchasing Carbon Credits with our Carbon Neutrality Initiative, we have proudly invested in a global reforestation scheme. In 2023 alone, we have proudly contributed to ‘El Arriero’ an afforestation project on degraded grasslands in Uruguay. We have also reinvested back into the North-East through dedication to our reforestation scheme in Widdrington, Northumberland.

Mobile Surveillance Webinar
We were also delighted to host our Mobile Surveillance Webinar, where we shared our wealth of experiences in specifying lighting for mobile surveillance systems. Watch the recording of our webinar here.
Hydrogen Application Focus
This year we launched a new Application Focus, ‘A Guide to Ex Lighting for the Hydrogen Industry,’ where we examined the pivotal role of hazardous area Ex lighting. This exploration highlights the vital need for specialised Ex lighting throughout hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and utilisation stages, essential for ensuring safety due to hydrogen’s volatile nature.
Redbull Racing
Raytec partnered with Magenta Films in the Autumn of this year, and we were lucky enough to be part of the magic, capturing on film the intricate orchestrations of Red Bull Racing pit stops. With a twist on the usual choreography, Magenta Films challenged the Redbull Pit Crew to perform the pit stops completely blind in absolute darkness.
Raytec’s very own VARIO2 Infra-Red lamps were used to provide the covert lighting to allow the footage of the pit stops to be filmed. Raytec was proud to contribute six VARIO2-i8-3 units with 120×120 circular lenses and three VARIO2-i8-1 units in the photography booth. Without Raytec’s Infra-Red illuminators, the camera wouldn’t have been able to see the pit change happening.
