Raytec Deterrent Lighting Protects Rental Car Lot in Texas
Malco Solutions is a Security and Surveillance company located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas. They have designed custom-made security trailers that can be loaned to businesses in the region that need proactive solutions with deterrent lighting and alarms.
The Challenge
Malco Solutions was hired by an Enterprise rental car dealership in
the Dallas-Fort Worth area due to rising concerns with their
unmanned rental car lot. The primary challenge faced by the client
was the inability to secure the dealership lot during off-hours.
Traditional security measures such as fencing were insufficient, as
vandals would either break or hop the fence to access approximately
1000 parked vehicles in an over 40-acre space. The client sought a
robust security solution that could provide real-time monitoring, deter
potential threats, and minimize the risk of vehicle theft.
Why Deterrent Lighting is so Effective
Deterrent white light on surveillance towers is highly effective at
discouraging intruders in car lots (or generally wide-open areas) due
to its potent psychological impact and immediate visibility. The
sudden illumination of a very dark area with bright, white light not only
startles intruders but also draws attention to their presence,
increasing the risk of detection and apprehension. This intense burst
of light disrupts the intruders’ sense of anonymity and reinforces the
notion that the premises are actively monitored and protected.
The Solution
Malco Solutions outfitted Raytec’s VAR2-IPPOE-w4-1 lamps onto their mobile surveillance towers. The towers have motion sensors installed, which trigger the Raytec illuminators. The towers are also connected to real-time monitoring. Once triggered, the live video feed is immediately monitored by a security professional who can assess the video and notify authorities if needed.

The brightness of the Raytec luminaires creates a combination of surprise and psychological effect; this allows Malco’s mobile surveillance towers to be a proactive and incredibly successful measure to deter intruders and safeguard the previously unmanned Enterprise lot. Prevention is always better than investigation; it’s better to avoid a crime occurring, than to have a crime committed, and later use valuable time and resources to solve and bring it to justice.
