World Wildlife Day

3 March 2025

The theme for World Wildlife Day 2025 is Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet.

At Raytec, we understand the impact that traditional lighting can have on wildlife, particularly in sensitive ecosystems such as coastal regions and nature reserves. That’s why we have made it our mission to develop innovative, wildlife-friendly lighting solutions that minimise disruption to natural habitats while maintaining the highest levels of illumination and safety.

Lighting for Wildlife Conservation

Raytec has worked sincerely to ensure our lighting solutions support environmental sustainability. Our wildlife-friendly lighting range, featuring amber LEDs, is specifically designed to protect wildlife in coastal areas and nature reserves. Traditional artificial lighting can disorient and disturb nocturnal animals, particularly migratory birds and sea turtles. By utilising amber LEDs, which emit a wavelength less disruptive to wildlife, we help safeguard these species and their natural behaviours.

Bespoke Bird-Friendly Lighting Solutions

Our collaboration with Unique Lights resulted in custom SPARTAN Linear luminaires, featuring a special turquoise monochromatic LED. This innovative lighting conforms to strict environmental regulations aimed at protecting local bird populations in the Netherlands. Unlike white lighting, turquoise LEDs produce minimal distraction, allowing birds to navigate and thrive in their habitat undisturbed. This pioneering development exemplifies how advanced lighting technology can coexist with wildlife conservation.

ADSA Wildlife Certification

Raytec’s commitment to wildlife preservation has been recognised through the prestigious ADSA (Australasian Dark Sky Alliance) Prized Wildlife Certification. This certification highlights our dedication to implementing lighting solutions that protect coastal wildlife, particularly sea turtles, whose nesting and migration patterns are highly sensitive to artificial light. By integrating responsible lighting practices, we contribute to reducing light pollution and preserving the natural beauty of the night skies, especially in ecologically rich regions like Australia.

Conclusion

Protecting the planet is an integral part of Raytec’s vision, and we’re extremely proud to have achieved carbon neutrality for two consecutive years. By investing time and resources to achieve our environmental goals, we’re excited to see Raytec continue to grow in a responsible way. Our sustainable initiatives align with the Wildlife Conservation Finance theme by ensuring that our investments benefit both people and the planet. Through eco-conscious innovations and responsible business practices, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and promoting a wildlife-friendly future.
