Igniting Young Minds: Manufacturing Taster Mornings at Raytec

The manufacturing industry is a cornerstone of our economy, offering countless job opportunities and driving innovation. At Raytec, we are as passionate about LED Lighting as we are about nurturing the next generation of manufacturing talent. By working closely with our local community in Ashington, we’re committed to making manufacturing accessible and attractive to the younger generation.

We believe that early exposure to manufacturing is key to inspiring young people to pursue careers in this field. That’s why we offer interactive taster mornings tailored to different age groups. For students aged 11-13, these sessions are designed to spark curiosity and ignite a passion for innovation. They’ll embark on a guided tour of our facilities, witnessing first-hand how our industry-leading products are designed and brought to life. Through interactive presentations, they’ll learn about the diverse career paths available in manufacturing, from engineering and design to production and quality control. Our goal is to plant a seed of possibility, encouraging them to explore the exciting world of manufacturing.

For aspiring professionals aged 18-25, our taster mornings take a more focused approach. We equip them with the skills and confidence needed to thrive in a manufacturing career. These sessions include practical workshops that allow them to get hands-on with our LED lighting products that cater to hazardous, industrial, security and transport applications. They’ll also receive career guidance from our in-house experts and have opportunities to network with professionals, gaining valuable insights into the industry landscape.

Our commitment to nurturing young talent extends beyond taster mornings. In November, we collaborated with Northumberland College at their careers fair, showcasing exciting opportunities within the manufacturing field. Additionally, we’ve offered two-week work experience placements, providing students with a chance to gain practical experience in a world class manufacturing environment. These initiatives, along with our ongoing community partnerships, help foster a pipeline of talented individuals who are passionate about contributing to the future of manufacturing.
