Red Bull Racing's Pit Stop Challenge with Raytec’s Lighting

In Autumn 2023, Raytec was invited to collaborate with Red Bull Racing and Magenta Films on a unique project.

Red Bull Racing challenged their pit crew to execute pit stops blindfolded, choreographed in absolute darkness to push their limits. To monitor this extraordinary feat, Raytec VARIO2 illuminators were chosen to provide infra-red illumination, essential for capturing the action in the dark.

Raytec’s industry-leading lamps became the cornerstone of this ambitious project. Without the advanced infra-red illumination, it would have been impossible to capture the mesmerising precision of the pit crew’s manoeuvres. Our infra-red illuminators were fundamental to the project’s success, enabling the camera to see the pit stop in the dark.

As part of this collaboration, Raytec experts Ellis McCoy and John Pattison shared their specialised knowledge of infra-red lighting with the Red Bull Racing team in Milton Keynes. They emphasised Raytec’s commitment to seamless installations, excellent customer service, and outstanding technical support throughout the project.

Our team was excited to learn more about the video production process and the manipulation of infra-red lighting.
